I've never been much of a blazer person, instead I was more of a cardi kind of girl. I've found it easier to layer a cardigan over a dress or a jeans and tee combo and it always makes everything effortless and looks less forced. So when the whole blazer trend picked up a couple of years ago, I was probably the last person to get on board and while others sported their coloured blazers with contrasting prints on their rolled up sleeves, I was still shying away from it all. Not to mention, the weather in Mumbai has never been blazer-friendly. Not when you're taking the public transport or going street shopping. So it was a complete waste in my opinion. Although I did stock up on a couple of basic colours (white, black and blue) I rarely wore them. So when slit-sleeve blazer slowly crept it's way from runways and red carpets, I was suddenly intrigued. I knew I would finally be able to get on board and not die in the heat, since the cape blazer is almost equivalent to wearing a sleeveless jacket/blazer.
While I bought my cape blazer a little before 2015, I still didn't wear it for an entire year, and it sat in my closet, with all it's tags. I finally pulled it out a few weeks ago and began experimenting with it. It works with almost everything, just like the regular blazer, but it adds a new level of power dressing to a look. While I can almost wear it with everything I own, I decided to put together three specific looks that are my favourites.

While I can almost wear it with everything I own, I decided to put together three specific looks that are my favourites.
The "Officionado"
This particular outfit is for that woman in charge with a commandeering spirit, who spends her day strutting down the office while managing a team of creatives and hopping off to meetings in swanky coffee shops and eateries, all in style. For this one it was a very straightforward pairing and teaming a sleek white dress complete with lace with the black cape blazer felt so natural. Also the black and white combination added a new level of chic was just perfection. The red vintage inspired bag was a cute addition and breaks the stark monochrome banter in otherwise a dull "boring" office getup.
Girl About Town
This casual look is for the fun loving girl who loves to conquer town. For shopping or movie dates with friends or even a solo trip to the mall, this would be my go to look. For others it could be a pair of denims instead of the skirt, but since I'm more of a floaty skirt kind of girl, I love wearing a feminine twirly skirt. The bright fuchsia skirt with the tropical blouse were a great mixed canvas for the cape blazer, which made the look stand over even better. So much so, that I'm almost hitting myself for not wearing blazers sooner! Who knew a black blazer could actually be so much fun? I most certainly didn't!
After Hours
I saved the best for now. I felt my absolute best in this particular outfit and I was inspired by Victoria Beckham's Fall 2013 look and also Deepika Padukone's recent fiery red suit I would totally recommend pairing a cape blazer with a jumpsuit in the same colour. Or even separates like trousers and a shirt/blouse that all match. The result is absolutely stunning and I'm going to be wearing this to a wedding soon, and also might keep this around for next Halloween and pair it with my Batman mask! The best kind of accessories here are no accessories or maybe just a pair of danglers. Nothing more.
