Vanity is where I put together all my "look good and feel good" stuff which is make-up and other stuff. Since I'm not such a heavily made up person, so I obviously have a smaller selection of beauty products, not counting toiletries, but products that are more external and can be seen or smelt in this case.
Liquid foundation and a mini compact are my essentials and are always great when it comes to concealing a little redness or breakout on my face. I recently started using a blusher and bronzer so I carry that everywhere as well. Lastly I have a few lipsticks that last long on me (you should know by now, which ones last longer on yourself), black kajal, perfume and my body mist and lotion. I use my body mist on a daily basis and the perfume more sparingly, also, according to where you're flying to, the body mist and lotion might be a complete no since mine is above 250ml and there's where my 50ml perfume comes into the picture. However, I always make sure I know the prohibited items before I travel, so I shove my lotion and body mist into my check in bag if I need to.
I'm totally a Victoria's Secret body mist person, ever since I was introduced to them years ago when my dad gifted me one. After that, I've always had a bottle on two on me and I currently own too many and already have my favourites from the brand. I'm also not much of a floral person and prefer a more fruity essence, but this scent is just too yummy to resist!
I used to call this my fashion segment, however I've felt it's more comfort and well-being instead. Also fashion and comfort run synonymous with me anyway and I always carry a few items that will keep me well rested and looking good, especially during a long flight. From a trusty leather jacket which looks really chic while checking in at the airport, but will also keep me warm during the course of my travel to a pair of cute socks because when I take off my footwear, the socks will keep me warm and also help keep smelly feet at bay to a small extent. Sunnies and hair ties are important for the most obvious reasons. I carry mints or something to munch on, and if it's a budget flight, my pouch with some cash to buy refreshments to snack on. Lastly, I carried a nail paint this time to while away my time while waiting to board my flight as I'm always early.
The Charles & Keith foldable sunnies are my favourite travel companions as they fold easily and take no space at all, making it easy to stow away into my bag when not in use. Also if you're flying during the day, you'll need a pair of your own, whether you sit at the window or not. My mum landed once in Bangkok with a massive headache even though she was sitting in the aisle next to me. The rays of light hit her during landing, and of course since the window shutter has to be up at this time, she was really helpless and could only just squint her eyes as we landed.
When I travel internationally I'm always eager to check out the movies running on the aircraft because I know I'll be glued to them all day. And I've once travelled through an 8 hour flight that started early in the morning, but I preferred to have coffee and stay awake and watch 3 movies back to back! But sometimes there's no in-flight entertainment so I always have my back-ups - my iPad and iPod, both of which have all my songs and playlists and games as well. I carry a book as well, since I rarely find the time to read and during a flight seems like the perfect excuse. And of course there's my phone, which has no music at all, thanks to all my apps, but I edit all my images on them and can be occupied for hours on it.
The Tva (featured above) by Sudio is a pair of beautifully designed earphones with hand made details that are my current favourite. The Tva is compatible with all devices and comes in a few select colour options. Whereas the Klang works best with iOS devices but also works well with Android. Each piece is equipped with a tiny storage pouch and a clip to attach the cords and can be rolled so neatly after every use. Sudio is a Swedish design and the name was interestingly inspired after one of the founders encountered Phil Collins who seemed to have had headphone problems at that time, and hence the name Sudio was a small homage to Collin's song Sussudio. Shop for Sudio earphones at here and at Flipkart (in India) and at Sudio for international purchases.
And finally, the extreme basics that go for without any saying are your toiletries like your toothbrush and paste as well as feminine hygiene products as well as mini shampoo and soap travel packets, especially if you know the hotel or wherever you'll be staying at, will not provide you any of the same. There's always the "I'll buy it when I get there" debate, however, I've had a few experiences of my own, like the time I forgot to pack my toothpaste and flew to Goa to work on a movie shoot. I landed there too late to visit any store and the call time for the shoot was 4:30 am. So at 4:05am I was rummaging in the dark through my roommate's belongings in the search for toothpaste while she slept on. And I just met her the previous night! Another time I forgot to pack my toothbrush while travelling to Hongkong and I really needed to brush my teeth. So I had to exchange a hundred dollar note, just to get the local dollar to buy a toothbrush from Boots at the airport. So travel packets of your toiletries are a must!
