Valentine's Day Special | Three fun looks for the day

It's that time of the year again, and it's a big dilemma when it comes to picking out an outfit, whether you care to celebrate Valentine's Day or just want to be extremely nonchalant about the fact that there really is a separate day to celebrate love. While most of us think red and hearts are cliched, we're naturally always drawn towards it and literally wear our hearts on our sleeves (or some other places) and really at the end of the day, as corny it might be, it still is cute. And the effort or the dire need to conform, will be appreciated by many.
Last year I did the heart print post after the whole Burberry oxblood heart print blouse happened, and believe me I tried to stay away from hearts again this year, but I guess I failed. This time it's just three different looks, for three different scenarios.

While most of you might argue with me and say we do not dress up for the men, but for ourselves, I cannot help but agree, but at the same time, we like to impress them as well. Don't we? But what we forget at most times is that guys are simple. They don't really like over the top-ness and might get too uncomfortable if you try to be extremely fashion forward with them. You need to let it all phase in slowly. Especially when it's a newer relationship or the earlier courting stage. Don't start with the leopard print stilettos yet, start small with the sneakers or ballet flats instead and leave your favourite prints for much later, graduation, if you may. And if you still have to wear heels, wear something more subtle like a neutral colour. Studs and spikes might make great conversation starters, but again, they can make some men feel uneasy. Keeping that in mind, here are my three looks that I put together.

Whether it's true love or not, it has to start somewhere right? This is for those earlier 6 months (or less) into a new relationship. It's always tricky to plan out a day, and there are so many expectations from what needs to be done on a Valentine's Day date, from getting flowers and chocolate and the perfect dream date with all the other things you might see Ryan Gosling do in the movies. But at the same time, in order to have a nice time, you have to be realistic and not have gigantic expectations. It's better to discuss and chalk out a plan for the day. It could start with brunch and a walk in the park or by your favourite area in the city and could end with catching a movie and maybe a round of happy hour drinks. It will be a lot more fun to plan it all together and be spontaneous as well.
For this look, I picked a cute skirt with lips printed all over. Teamed with my favourite Aztec appliqued blouse, I threw on my trusty old denim jacket to make the look a little more casual. With the very subtle heart printed bangles and other gold accessories, I lastly finished the look with a red bag and a pair of black slingbacks that match the whole outfit. If there is a lot of walking involved in this date, I'd advice you to pick sneakers or flats and skip the heels, unless you are really comfortable in them.

Skirt: Marks & Spencer | Blouse: Sarojini market, Delhi | Denim tunic short worn as jacket: Only | Red satchel & sunnies: Forever 21 | Bracelets: Dubai | Sling backs: Payless, Dubai

Then there are a few of us who are single on V-day and we would obviously not want to wallow into a blanket of self pity but it makes sense to go out there and celebrate your "singledom" and have fun. Also since it's a Saturday night, you have even more reason to get out there and strut your stuff. Gather together a bunch of your favourite ladies and hit the fanciest spots in town. And you can go crazy when it comes to dressing up, because only your girlfriends will truly appreciate your amazing sense of style. Also it doesn't hurt to capture a few male gazes in the process and make their ladies jealous!
For my "Girls night out" look I picked a floral kimono style jacket with neon hearts and I spent the longest time, trying to figure out what to wear underneath. I thought of a tank or a crop top or even a corset, but I finally settled with nothing. Well almost. I wore my lace bralet inside and pinned the button-less jacket a little above my natural waist. So while it still is modest, when in motion, the outfit shows a tiny bit of skin that's really more sensual than anything. Since I wanted it to be a little loud, I wore my high waist acid wash denims along with bling that clashes in a way that is still cool. My favourite accessory is the bag with the studs, bling and fur.

Kimono jacket: Pax, Colaba Causeway | Denims: Forever 21 | Bag: Linking Road | Neckpiece: Splash | Cuff: Fab Alley | Watch: Dragon Mart, Dubai | Platform sandals: Guess

This one doesn't need much explanation. It's that comfortable stage where you'd run down to meet him in the car in your flip flops and heels in hand and change into your shoes just before you arrive at your destination. Of course when it reaches this stage, he should be taking you out to a fancy dinner at a nice fancy place and of course you'll need to look fancy as well! Don't be afraid to go a little OTT because by now, he probably knows you well enough and has already accepted your penchant for collecting bags and won't bat an eyelash when he sees you holding a new one.
For the fancy dinner date, I picked a skater dress in a feminine colour with some real interesting back detailing from cut-outs to net that give an entire "peek-a-boo" vibe to the dress. I also added a contrast with the bag and of course had to wear my favourite leopard print heels, I think this particular look would make sure his eyes are on you all evening.

Pink skater dress: Kazo | Blue envelope bag: Cupidity by Karishma and Masumi | Neckpiece: Hill Road | Watch: c/o Daniel Wellington | Bracelet: c/o Silvette | Animal print heels: Forever 21
