Aztec Pencil Skirt - 5 ways

If you have been checking the Indian blogosphere, you would have noticed that pencil skirts seem to be an 'in' thing now. Many celebrities and bloggers have been sporting them for a while now. So I decided this needed a bit of analysis. A pencil skirt has always been perceived as something that falls under the formal or business wear category. Most Indian woman will associate it to office wear and will even refrain from buying a pencil skirt. At the same time a larger woman would refrain from it as well, as this type of skirt tends to hug the contours of the body from the waist to the knees (and can be a bit intimidating).
But fear not, here are 5 ways to wear a pencil skirt. The skirt in question is this black and white Aztec print, stretch jersey piece from Forever 21 that I managed to get for around 650/- Quite a steal in my opinion.

Look 1 - Girls just wanna have fun

Paired with a lacy crochet off-white blouse and a pink bag, this screams girly in every way. Perfect for shopping or brunch.

Top : thrifted (Linking road - 150/-), Shoes : thrifted (Hill Road - 350/-), Watch and shades : Aldo, Ring and neckpiece : thrifted (Raju's at Hill Road), Bag : Guess, Bracelets : Pieces.

Look 2 : Curve-Zilla

For all the curvy ladies, you can opt for a longer blouse or a tunic that is a fitted moderately and just skims over those parts that need not be focused on. Use a slim belt to clench in the smallest part of your waist.

Tunic : Sepia, Belt : Splash, Shoes : Steve Madden, Watch : Guess, Shades : Charles and Keith, bracelets : thrifted (Linking road)

Look 3 : Party Please

Yes you can actually wear a pencil skirt to a party. Opt for a cropped top (mine is just a tiny bit short, but you can go shorter if you wish to), add some bling, and you're good to go!

Cropped top : Forever New, Shoes : thrifted (La Judi - 650/-), Bag - thrifted (Linking Road - 500/-), Chain statement neckpiece : thrifted (Raju's at Hill Road), belt : Terranova (Milan), wrist cuff and ring : Forever 21

Look 4 : Rebel Chic

By far, my favourite look.. Add your favourite band tee and a denim jacket and a pair of sneakers or even better, sneaker wedges! Accessorize with studs and spikes. Hair tucked into jacket and grumpy face is purely optional.

Tee and gold spike bracelet : Bangkok, Denim jacket : Lee, Wedge sneakers : custom made Alberto Toressi, Bag : OVS, purple wrap bracelet and spike ring : thrifted (Raju's at Hill Road), shades : Aldo

Look 5 : On the Go!

Some of us are so busy and have no time to dress up and even accessorize (just like me on a regular work day). So a basic tee and a regular black blazer can do wonders to an outfit.

Tee : Terranova (Milan), Blazer : thrifted (Hill Road - 1000/-), shoes : Steve Madden, Bag : Chic Accessorizer, Watch : Guess, Shades : Aldo, Neckpiece : Fab Alley
So pick your persona and chose your pencil skirt now!

I mostly stuck to basic shades and my blacks and whites, but you can go all out with colour. There are still so many more ways to wear a pencil skirt than this. More more inspiration, you can have a look at my Pinterest board.

  3. Love all the different ways you wear this! I've always been hesitant to purchase a pencil skirt because they seem so "mature" on me but I absolutely adore how you've made the skirt youthful and fun!

    Thanks for the post!
