The Best and Worst of June and July Fashion Magazines
The Models With Air Conditioners Series, Part I - British Vogue
For when just wearing a bra doesn't do the trick.
The Models With Air Conditioners Series, Part II -The Journal
You know, this photograph probably just came straight from Abbey Lee's Facebook wall.
The Models With Air Conditioners Series, Part III -The Journal
Unless you look twice, you might not notice how eerily hard it is to tell whether the leg in the light is her right or left
Best Cape - Dazed & Confused
If you got to wear this, you probably wouldn't be able to resist rubbing the back of your neck on it when you walk through the poppy fields, either.
Least Practical Summer Makeup - i-D
This is always how we feel we look after a day walking around smoggy Manhattan in the summer, when the humidity and heat makes the pollution stick to you and feelawesome.
Best Mountain Goat Approximation - Numero
It's just enough goat, you know?
Most Absurd Beach Look - Teen Vogue
And you've been wearing your tee shirts over your bathing suit for added sun protection. Turns out, you've been doing it all wrong!
Best Desert Wanderer - Cosmopolitan
We can only hope that when Kate Middleton goes camping, it will look something like this.
Best Designer-and-Muse Portrait - Karl Lagerfeld and Janelle Monae in W
“We liked each other from the first second on,” Karl tells W. “Not just because of our style, but also the name: Janelle rhymes with Chanel, no?” See, they had to get in the bathtub for this shoot because Karl kept saying things like that and Janelle thought it was so amazing she might have a hot flash and need an instant cold shower. See how Karl's standing by for that?
Most Uncomfortable-Looking Designer - Donatella Versace in W
She's shooting daggers at her publicist for making her get on a bike in that dress and those heels. With a dress so tapered, she probably sat on the seat and then had the bike placed underneath her.
Most Notable Asian Editorial - Vogue
These photos go with a story about the filmSnow Flower and the Secret Fan, "an epic about the new and old China starring two of Asia’s most famous actresses—South Korea’s Gianna Jun and China’s Li Bing Bing." The outfits they're wearing on the right are actually costumes from the movie, notnecessarily an Asian high fashion statement.
Best Nonchalant Cat - Elle
This is the perfect cat cameo because it's not all about the cat like somanythings in fashion, but an offhand acknowledgment. Proof that the feline belongs as an integral part of the fashion landscape, as opposed to something that needs to be forced into acceptance.
Best Glamour Cat - Lula
However, we still can't argue with treating cats like glamorous movie stars, and Lula does an excellent job of that here with a feline that clearly understands photography subjects are not meant to be emotionally static beings, but rather convey their inner and outer vibrance.
Dazed & Confused - Most Tortured-looking Subject
Oh crap — I didn't think anyone was looking when I forced my boyfriend to wake up and watch the royal wedding with me
It's like your Aunt Mildred got a head transplant.
Worst Bloomers - Flare
There's a lot to be concerned about here, but turn your eye from the oversized accessories and focus on the bottoms. If they're roomy enough to carry a year's supply of tic-tacs, they're probably too baggy.
Best Hiking Spread - Vogue
Karlie Kloss is growing up into quite a beauty, which we all predicted, and this outdoors-y styling looks really lovely too. Well-played, Vogue.
Most Lady Repelling Tan Line - Fruit of the Loom
That thing is like an extra pair of underpants.
Best Props in a Lady Mag - Lucky
Takes gardening to a whole new level. Beats weed pulling?
Best Prop in a Guy Mag - Out
Major points for incorporating an activity we always think about doing when it's hot out but never actually get around to.
Most Ubiquitous BRIGHT YELLOW - Flare
A bag, a bathing suit, and what are allegedly bottoms.
Best Reason to Avoid Soulcycle - Surface
We've never been to the spinning gym but imagine it's something like this on the inside.Surface let's us live vicariously without going to the bother of working out.
Best Picture of Snooki: Out
This shot somehow wouldn't work in a magazine that was called Concealed.
Best Socialite Portrait - Lisa Falcone in Vanity Fair
You know Lisa Falcone. Can't place her? Sure you can. Her husband is hedge fund billionaire Philip Falcone. Their pets are her many textured elaborate outfits, just like this one.
Best Athlete Portrait - Vogue
This is Novak Djokovic. He plays tennis. It's fun to imagine Anna Wintour at one of his matches thinking about just how she should photograph him for Vogue and eventually settling on this.
Best Makeup - W
One of those fun to gaze at, good luck pulling it off in real life looks. But so pretty with the beach ball!
Best Lips - Russian Vogue
This is what happens when you eat Katy Perry's Smurf costumes.
Best Baby - W
If you ever wanted a reason to think of your bags as your children, just look; these two bags are about the size of this one.
Best Hungover Mermaid Scene -Numero
Fashion editors never seem to tire of putting these models on rocks without any padding.
Most Questionable Styling - Nylon
You know that old saying about getting dressed in the dark? This girl didn't get dressed in the dark — she got dressed in the dark, went into the light, found some highlighters, old cassette tapes, and children's Halloween table cloths, then went back in the dark, took some acid, and put her looks together. But fashion sometimes gets off on this kind of thing. Do you?
